The measurement element of this sensor is a type N thermocouple. A thermocouple is a junction between two different metals (Nickel-Chromium-Silicon/Nickel-Silicon) that produces a small voltage related to a temperature difference. The sensor contains integrated electronics to convert this small voltage to a linear output voltage. The measured temperature can easily be calculated. The success of the sensor concept can be traced back to its ease of use and wide range performance (-40°C up to 1150°C). In production for some years now, the sensor proved to be accurate, fast, resistant to very high temperature and with a good thermal shock resistance.
